Top: Cartoonist Mike Lester offers his unique insight into the Gabrielle Giffords shooting in January 2011. Bottom: Lester’s reaction to the recent Aurora, Colo., mass murder.
Clearly dummies have twisted the Second Amendment to guarantee unstable individuals the right to bear arms as well, completely ignoring the “well regulated” part of the text and considering such acts of violence merely the “price of freedom.”
There is another common message to the two cartoons as well: only dummies entertain the fantasy of shooting back in a chaotic situation without causing further casualties. Two good cartoons.
Talking Point Four-for Friday: "You didn't build that"
Literally composed of other body parts and given life by the elements, Frankenstein’s creature is a textbook case for dispelling the myth of the self-made man.
Romney is a blank slate (or Etch-a-Sketch, if you will) who refuses to define himself by maintaining the same stance on any issue for long; Obama has succeeded in defining himself, consistently maintaining that success doesn’t happen in a vacuum.
"I’m a tiny entrepreneur with a lemonade stand who received no outside help. Except from my parents. And whoever grew these lemons. And the municipal water supply. And whoever built that sidewalk and bought my clothes and taught me to write and count. See, I’m totally a self-made man,” said the ungrateful brat American businessman.
If only the Three Little Pigs had lived in a world with building codes and zoning laws and city inspectors and publicly funded engineering schools instead of a conservative fantasyland, their houses might have withstood a slight breeze.
Truly a talking point made of straw. Four good cartoons.
Ronald Reagan and his supporters (their backwards views symbolically represented by a dinosaur) went on a rampage that targeted Americans for sport, shredded American values (the flag torn by the raptor’s claws) and ultimately resulted in the destruction of the country (note the wreckage of the WTC in the corner and the light flares from explosions all over). All that remains of the country is our military industrial complex (the F-35 in the upper right corner) and the torn bits of our past, taken as trophies like a serial killer does to his victims (the shredded flag under the saddle). A good cartoon.
Mike Lester does a cartoon on Americans’ widespread ignorance of the difference between high resolution photos and low res images you just stole off the internet. An important issue plaguing America. A Good Cartoon
