Both sides know that they must reduce spending. However, while the democrats want to proceed delicately, making surgical cuts to carefully trim the budget to a manageable size, the blood-frenzied republicans want to take a chainsaw to it, reducing it to a pulpy mess that will be of no use to anyone, more than likely destroying the table in the process.
